Lecture series on “Best Practices in German Organisations”

Theoretical knowledge and practical knowledge always go hand-in-hand at the Indo-German Training Centre. Text books are never thought to be sufficient tools for education and hence IGTC goes one step further to enhance the students’ learning with the “The ‘Best Practices in German Organizations Series’.

We believe that experience is the best teacher, and thus we invite leaders from the corporate world with a plethora of experience before them to conduct a series of lectures for the students on the best practices followed in the industry. In today’s world, students need much more than mere classroom knowledge to prepare them for the job market. Lessons from real life experiences of these industry experts help bring about a complete overall development of the students as theoretical concepts are transformed to practical application.

The series was conducted through November and December, 2016.

My experience in Siemens
Mr. Christian Rummel, Executive Director & CFO, Siemens Ltd.

Along with elaborating on the best practices in German Organizations, Mr. Rummel emphasized on his personal growth and experiences in Siemens Ltd. Indeed it was fascinating session to have the Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer elaborate on his decisions in life that make him what he is today. His analogy on Steffi Graf, on how in addition to working on her weaknesses, she focusses on practicing her untouchable forehand incessantly, suggesting that students should focus not merely on their weaknesses but also their strengths which would eventually lead to a successful career, was insightful and inspiring. He explained how the Indian culture of the ‘Guest is equivalent to God’ is adapted to the ‘Customer is equivalent to God’ in German organizations thereby highlighting the importance of maintaining relationships in the corporate world and utilizing every opportunity to grow.

The engaging session also emphasized on Self-Analysis to attain excellence in all that one does, and Stress Management necessary for German Organizational culture. They spelled out the dos and don’ts in German organization which would be beneficial in the years to come.

How to attend an Interview
Mr. Rupesh Basu, Chief – Talent Acquisition, Siemens Ltd.

With the increasing pressure on students for placements Mr. Basu’s lecture on the do’s and don’ts of an interview could not have come at a better time. An inspiring session that described the core values of Siemens, VIZ. Responsibility, Excellence and Innovation. Values that not only drive an organization but should also be drivers for success and growth from an individual aspect too. Mr. Basu spoke about how interviews are the most crucial part of the whole placement process as they provide a stepping stone into the company that the students desire.  The advice given to the class helped them understand greatly about the entire interview process. The mock interviews with the students from each area of specialization helped streamline their thought process on how to answer specific questions.

A world of opportunities with SKF
Mr. Shishir Joshipura, Managing Director, SKF Bearing India Ltd.

In his first address at IGTC, Mr. Joshipura began by explaining the journey of SKF India and the values and ethics practised to make it the best bearings company in India. During this insightful session the students learnt some important concepts of self-management, self-analysis and putting the best foot forward. With immense industrial exposure he shared his own journey towards the role of a leader while explaining the leadership in the VUCA world and stressed on the importance of Emotional Quotient over Intelligence Quotient. He urged the students to be passionately curious as being curious just isn’t enough now days. Students appreciated his brilliant style of presenting the topic and enthusiasm with which he interacted with the entire class.

You and You
Mr. Anand Srinivasan, Head – BU Polycarbonate, Covestro India

A young and dynamic leader, Mr. Anand Srinivasan’s lecture was well received as he gave the students a paradigm shift towards the importance of having a purpose behind their goals. The session was riveting and fun filled as he asked the students to role play various scenarios to show them how small changes in their lives could directly cascade down and influence others towards similar, better changes. He thus altered the students’ mind-set towards making a difference in the environment they live in. The students were really impressed with Mr. Srinivasan’s presentation on how working in India can be even better as they can contribute more, thus making the future a bright and happy place for everyone.

From Compliances to Values
Mr. Neville Gandhi, Regional Compliance Officer, Siemens Ltd.

“Only clean business is Siemens business. Everywhere – Everybody – Everytime.”
This mantra of Siemens is what captivated the students from the word go as Mr. Gandhi described the importance of doing things within the boundaries of ethics and compliance. The students gained a lot of values and perspectives about the function of compliance as Mr. Gandhi explained why we follow processes in an organization and how deviation from these can lead to problems. He emphasized on the importance of not only handling a problem but also taking ownership for it saying “it is better to come clean and take responsibility for the actions of the company.”

Finance – Liquidity and Capital Solvency Ratios
Mr. Ray Naussedat, Vice President – Group Finance, Deutsche Bank Operations international (DBOI) Global Services Pvt. Ltd.

A financial guru himself, Mr. Naussedat captivated his audience as he gave the students an overall idea into evolution of banks. The students were left awestruck as they heard about the 2008 financial crisis from someone who experienced it first-hand. The students gained a lot of value from the lecture as they listened to financial concepts of Capital and Liquidity from an industrial perspective.
